About This Site

Pickleball Paddles Hub is written for the people who fill the rec-center and park courts on weekday mornings. We review paddles, outdoor pickleballs, paddle bags and elbow braces the way a regular doubles player actually uses them, in open play, in league nights and on cold and hot courts, and we say plainly who each one is and is not for.

Playing Safely

Pickleball is a low-impact game, but most injuries come from the same few places. Falls happen when players backpedal for a lob, so turn and move sideways instead of stepping backward, and wear court shoes with lateral support rather than running shoes. Wet or dusty outdoor courts are slick; sweep or skip them.

Warm up before you play. Cold muscles and tendons are where elbow, shoulder and calf strains start, and repetitive paddle work can aggravate tennis elbow. An elbow brace may make play more comfortable for some players, but it is not a treatment. If pain is sharp, lasts more than a few days, or wakes you at night, stop playing and see a doctor or physical therapist.

Protect your eyes, since a hard outdoor ball at the kitchen line travels fast; many players wear sports eyewear. Drink water, take shade breaks, and watch for heat exhaustion on summer courts. If you have a heart condition or other health concerns, talk with your doctor before starting a new sport. Nothing on this site is medical advice.
